FAQs.

  1. WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?

    1. CHILDREN: This program is for any child with food allergies and their whole immediate family. We work with children of all ages to help them understand how to speak up for themselves, what kinds of questions to ask when eating out or offered food at school, what to do if an activity isn't safe, etc.

    2. FAMILIES: This program is also for families. We welcome parents to be involved as well as siblings. Does Grandma take care of the children after school? Great! She can participate, too. This is a family program so that the whole family can learn to confidently manage a child's food allergies.

    3. ADULTS: This program is also for adults. I wasn't diagnosed with my food allergies until I was in my late 20's. Navigating work with food allergies can be extremely challenging. Staff meetings with food, social gatherings employees are encouraged to attend that aren't safe or accommodating, and other such situations can feel awkward and may even inhibit an employee's ability to get ahead. We can help you advocate for yourself, no matter what age or stage of life you're in.

  2. WHAT DO I GET OUT OF THIS PROGRAM

    1. INTERACTIVE SUPPORT: Our individual and group programs are live, interactive, and custom programs tailored to your specific needs. There are a lot of great webinars, videos, podcasts, books, and other resources out there. But, there's a difference between watching a video and being able to talk to a live person who can assess your situation and provide training to meet your needs, where you are in your food allergy journey. We walk you through a comprehensive program one step at a time so the process is less overwhelming than if you did all of this research on your own.

    2. SUPPORT SYSTEM: Our group program in particular is designed to help you develop relationships with other kids and families coping with food allergies. When you purchase one of our programs, you get access to our online community as well where you can learn from each other, vent with each other, and support each other through all of the trials and tribulations of this crazy food allergy life!

    3. INFORMATION: Sure, you can research all these issues on your own. It took me years. Who has time for that? You've got work and kids and loved ones and bills to pay and a home to clean. It can also be challenging to get all the information you need specific to your particular circumstances. Together, we go over your exact needs so that we can tailor a program for you and make sure you're getting ALL of the information you need to safely navigate life with food allergies.

    4. RESOURCES: In our library, there are videos and resources to help you navigate food allergies in all kinds of situations from extra curricular activities to holidays to work to shopping at the grocery store. Don't have time for a whole program? Purchase videos to watch on your schedule or briefs to skim through to give you an overview of the basics of food allergy rights.

  3. PEACE OF MIND: There's so much consumers don't know about their food, food labels, accommodations, their rights, and more. How can you be sure that label is safe? We'll walk you through all of these things so that you can worry a lot less about all the potential hazards of life with food allergies.

  4. CONFIDENCE: Often the thing holding us back from advocating for ourselves is not understanding what our rights are in the first place. Knowledge is power. When you know how to advocate for yourself or your loved ones, you can do so far more confidently than if you're unsure.

  5. HOW LONG IS THIS PROGRAM

    1. INDIVIDUAL CONSULTING: If you choose to work one-on-one with me, we'll tailor a program specific to your needs. Some programs may be more involved, because the needs are greater. Some programs may be brief, because they're hyper-focused on one particular aspect. We'll work together to figure out the right course for you.

    2. GROUP CONSULTING: Our group programs are designed to last for twelve weeks. Eight of those weeks are group sessions which include a session with a nutritionist, a counselor, and a financial planner (did you know you could deduct the cost of gluten free food on your taxes? What? Learn more in our group program!). The last four weeks are designed for one-on-one sessions where we get more in-depth into the program specific to your needs and make sure you finish the program with a clear understanding of how to advocate for yourself and your family.

    3. SELF-GUIDED PROGRAM (Coming Soon!): You can also purchase pre-recorded videos in our library. These vary in length depending on the complexity of the topic.

  6. WHAT DOES THE GROUP PROGRAM INCLUDE?

    1. The group program is a fully comprehensive course that teaches you:

      • The basics of living with food allergies

      • How to safely read food labels

      • How to find hidden allergens in your food

      • How to find hidden allergens in non-food items

      • How to request accommodations at school, at work, or other important places

      • How to safely eat in restaurants

      • To be prepared for travel

      • To cope with mental health challenges

      • Ensure you're getting enough nutrition despite a restricted diet

      • And more!

  7. HOW HARD IS IT TO READ FOOD LABELS

    1. Food labels can be really confusing. There are a lot of exceptions. Many people accidentally eat their allergies not realizing that the label wasn't accurate or didn't have to reflect their allergies or the product was at risk for cross contamination.

  8. CAN I JUST WATCH A VIDEO

    1. YES! We offer pre-recorded videos in our library designed to give you the basics of food allergy rights. Need more in-depth coaching? No problem! Join one of our group sessions or work one-on-one with me.

  9. WILL THIS PROGRAM CURE MY CHILD'S ALLERGIES?

    1. NO! I can't stress enough that while I am many things and while I collaborate with other professionals, this program is not a medical or scientific program. We do not in any way treat food allergies or try to cure food allergies. We are simply here to help guide you through life with your food allergies. Questions about diagnosis or treatment should be directed to your allergist.

  10. WILL YOU REPERSENT MY CHILD AT SCHOOL?

    1. UNFORTUNATELY, PROBABLY NOT. While I am a licensed attorney, I can only represent clients in schools in the greater Charlotte area. However, there are other great attorneys who have expertise in special education law that I can refer you to if you need someone to go to bat for your child in schools. My goal is to help you as a family and your child individually learn their rights so they can advocate for themselves. However, some situations require additional help, and for that I can refer you to attorneys who focus on special education law to help your family.

  11. MY CHILD WAS JUST DIAGNOSED WITH ALLERGIES. I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE TO START. WHAT DO I DO?

    1. DON'T PANIC! First, take a deep breath. The unknown can be really scary, but I'm here to help. You can sign up for our newsletter, you can send me an email, you can give me a call. I can walk you through some options for working with me and point you towards other resources as necessary.
